On 12 September 2014 the Federal Administration informed that Switzerland has now the status of an Associate Country (AC) under the first pillar.
This partial association allows researchers in Switzerland to again participate as associated and equally entitled partners in all activities under the first pillar of Horizon 2020, comprising ERC grants, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) and research infrastructures, from September 15, 2014.
The deadline for the Marie Curie Action Initial Training Network (ITN) for 2015 is approaching. On January 13, 2015 proposals have to be submitted to the European Commission. Do you also plan to hand in a project? Have you considered complementary skills trainings in your application?
The aim of Initial Training Networks is to improve career perspectives of early-stage researchers in both public and private sectors. The trainings provided during the projects are primarily focused on scientific and technological knowledge. But these trainings need to be complemented by substantial training modules addressing key transferable skills.

Since the vote against mass immigration held on 9 February, 2014 Switzerland has the status of a third country entity. This means that Swiss researchers can not fully participate in the 8th framework programme of the European Union called Horizon 2020. The participation of Swiss researchers, universities and SMEs has drastically decreased.
On 12 March and 8 May 2015, the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) decided the participation of Switzerland in 8 new COST Actions.
The title of this year’s 21 Annual Conference of EARMA (European Association for Research Managers and Administrators) was "Global Outreach: Enabling Cultures and Diversity in Research Management and Administration".
