Almost every country has its own research funding programmes. Whether to finance the young scientific generation through scholarships, or research consortia with project money – the individual nations provide funding to their researchers.

In Switzerland, the federal government offers different ways of funding for their scientists. The most important ones are:

 chfrderung

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF)

The National Research Programmes (NRP)

The National Centres of Competence in Research (NCCR)

The Commission for Technology and Innovation (CTI)

The Swiss National Science Foundation supports all disciplines - from philosophy and linguistics to biology and medicine. The funding programmes are open to all scientists active in Switzerland and the topics are not pre-defined for basic research.

For targeted research, the federal government has additionally set up two coordinated research programmes. The National Research Programmes (NRP) and the National Centres of Competence in Research (NCCR) promote fixed-term projects with clearly defined objectives.

Another important funding initiative is promoted by the Innovation Promotion Agency CTI. It supports knowledge and technology transfer between companies and universities. The CTI builds bridges between theory and practice and promotes the development of start-ups.

In addition, there are other funding opportunities. Getting an overview of all initiatives needs certain know-how and several years of experience in the field of research funding. We would like to help you gain an overview of national research funding opportunities and support you in participating in a national R&D programme.
