"Get connected" is the slogan of the tour of the ETH Big Band in China. eurelations joins the group and visits the five major Chinese universities with the goal to built new partnerships between competent scientist in the life- and environmenal sciences.

eurelations AG is a partner in the project KAPPA-Health to assess and valorise the success of biomedical small and medium sized companies (SME) receiving funds from the European Union’s Framework Programmes 6 and 7 for research and technological development (FP6/7). The project is a specific support action with the aim is to catch up with successful biomedical SME, gain knowledge about the most relevant factors for a successful participation in EU FP6 and 7 to provide information on how additional innovation capital can be acquired.

SMEs in the biomedical (Pharma, Biotechnology and Medtech) are important key to economic competitiveness and growth. Despite biomedical SME’s incredible potential to cure debilitating diseases and improve the quality of life for people, public and private funding for biomedical research and design is declining - a trend that could jeopardize efforts to find improved treatments for people with life-threatening illnesses.

Although public funding by the European Unions FP accounts only for 4-5% of the total investment in R&D the projects bring together a critical mass of stakeholders with the aim to improve citizen’s health and to boost European economy. In almost all cases additional capital from the other public sources, private investors or through public-private partnership is needed to bring biomedical discoveries towards the market. The KAPPA-Health survey will enable to select successful SMEs active in FP6/7. The success factors may be used as criteria to impose future successful FP collaborations. KAPPA-Health will contribute to exploit biomedical innovations from FP cooperation by providing knowledge about the additional range of funds to the decision makers of SMEs and by the valorisation of the companies. Biomedical SMEs by this empowering support shall become more attractive for potential investors. The generated new knowledge will increase the flow of capital to biomedical research and help improve citizen’s health.

eurelations AG ist Partner im Projekt KAPPA-Health, welches der Einschätzung und Valorisierung des Erfolges von biomedizinischen Kleinen und Mittleren Unternehmen (KMU) dient, die über das 6. und 7. Rahmenprogramm für Forschung und technologische Entwicklung der Europäischen Union (RP6/7) Drittmittel beziehen. Das Projekt ist eine „specific support action“ mit dem Ziel, erfolgreiche biomedizinische KMU zu kontaktieren und Erkenntnisse über die relevantesten Faktoren zur erfolgreichen Teilnahmen am RP6 und 7 zu erlangen und Informationen zu sammeln, wie zusätzliches Innovationskapital akquiriert werden kann.

KMU im biomedizinischen Sektor (Pharma, Biotechnologie und Medtech) sind wichtige Schlüsselfaktoren für wirtschaftliches Wachstum und Konkurrenzfähigkeit. Zudem besitzen biomedizinische KMU grosses Potential, Krankheiten zu heilen und die Lebensqualität der Menschen zu verbessern. Die öffentliche und private Finanzierung für biomedizinische Forschung und Design ist rückläufig – ein Trend welcher die Bemühungen, verbesserte Behandlungen für Menschen mit lebensbedrohlichen Krankheiten zu erforschen, auf Spiel setzt.

Auch wenn die öffentliche Finanzierung der RP’s der Europäischen Union nur 4-5% der totalen Investitionen in F&E betragen, umfasst das Projekt die kritische Masse von Stakeholdern mit dem Ziel die Gesundheit der Bürger zu verbessern und die Europäische Wirtschaft zu stärken. In fast allen Fällen wird zusätzliches Kapital von anderen öffentlichen Stellen, privaten Investoren oder von öffentlich-privaten Partnerschaften benötigt, um biomedizinische Entdeckungen auf den Markt zu bringen. Die KAPPA-Health Studie wird es ermöglichen, erfolgreiche KMU welche im RP6 und 7 aktiv waren resp. sind, zu ermitteln. Die Erfolgsfaktoren werden als Kriterien gebraucht werden können, um zukünftige, erfolgreiche KMU Kooperationen zu generieren. KAPPA-Health wird dazu beitragen, biomedizinische Innovationen von RP Kooperationen zu nützen, indem es Wissen über die verschiedenen Geldmittelbereiche den Entscheidungsträgern der KMU vermittelt und in dem es Unternehmen valorisiert. Biomedizinische KMU sollen durch diesen Support für potentielle Investoren attraktiver werden. Das neugenerierte Wissen wird den Kapitalfluss zur biomedizinischen Forschung steigern und dazu beitragen die Volksgesundheit zu verbessern.
